The day began with rain. I looked outside early on May 20th to find storm clouds threatening. Knowing Spencer and Emma’s guest list spanned the globe, I began praying for the storms to subside so they could have the outdoor ceremony they planned. That they could say their vows in wide open spaces and their guests could enjoy the beauty of Chapel Creek Ranch.
I arrived and just like that, the clouds began to dissipate. The sun peeked out through clouds, highlighting beautiful spring wildflowers and gentle rolling hills. Long horns grazed lazily on the wide sweeping front lawn. I marveled at the sky dotted with clouds and blue. I knew this was going to be a perfect day. And so it was.
Emma, I asked your Mom how she was doing before your ceremony. Her response stuck with me and is something I’ll carry with me and recall in future days when my own daughters are dressed in white. She told me that while she may shed some tears during your vows… she couldn’t be happier because her daughter couldn’t have found a better man to spend her life with. And, as a parent, “this is what we raise them to do.” That simple phrase spoke volumes. Yes, we raise our children with great hopes that they’ll find someone who will love and treasure them as much… or more… than we do.
I dare say… your Mother succeeded. You and Spencer are cut from the same cloth. Here’s to a lifetime of adventures and happiness.
With gratitude,
Kate
