Jeff and Candace drove from Houston to meet me on a bright morning at Grapevine Lake. I’d spoken with Candace several times, but this was the first time in person. Immediately, I felt so comfortable with them both, like we were old friends. I had every suspicion it would be this way. When inquiries come in, I’ll ask questions to get to know the couple and see if we’d be a good fit. That’s important to me, because I don’t take jobs. I don’t think any couple should entrust their once in a lifetime wedding day to someone who treats it like a “job.” I’m there to serve a couple, to the best of my ability… and in doing that, I will work to photograph their story with authenticity. Beauty. Love. But it’s much more than a job. I’m the one who stands in their shadow and creates their first heirloom as husband and wife.
This, is a sacred trust.
When I asked Candace to describe Jeff in 3 words, she did. I often hear amazing things. Beautiful descriptives. Her reply?
He is home.
That set me back on my heels and made me stop.
I admit, I thought about that all day… and for many days since.
Marriage is a great many things. Requiring a great many things.
But if someone always makes you feel like you’ve come home, well… there’s not really anything better than that.
Candace and Jeff, you blew me away and I cannot wait to celebrate your wedding at The Vineyard at Florence. I plan to do an Irish dance or two with you (Candace?), and hear what you decide about those Norwegian vows. Maybe you can thumb war it out. 🙂 You two are truly special… and one of a kind.
Thank you for such a joy filled morning.
We’re going to have so much fun this October!
With gratitude,
Kate
