Ever since I was small, I loved stories. Fairytales. Romances.
In particular, I loved the series Anne of Green Gables. A freckled red head who found poetry in everything (sound familiar?)
Life can dull our vision, permitting only what’s responsible and rational, not romanic and winsome.
But every wedding day… I get to step back into a dream. I am given full permission to see the world with rose colored lenses.
And the world is beautiful.
It’s no secret – I fall in love with the story again and again. The way he looks at her. The way she leans into him. The way their hands linger together.
I end up loving their families too. I’m always listening, looking for what threads of personality wound up in their children. Krystina’s father, David, began the reception by thanking guests… but also honoring his new son in law by sharing a story. He told of how Chad pursued his daughter through what some would consider old fashioned courtship. Chad got to know Krystina’s family and asked her father for permission to date her. David told Chad that if he was to pursue his daughter, he needed to know one thing: Krystina wasn’t a toe in the water, but an all in, kind of girl. If she gave her heart, it would be all of it. He cautioned Chad to treasure and treat her heart with care.
Fast forward two years, heart-in-hand, Chad respectfully asks Krystina’s parents for permission to marry her. With voice shaking and tear filled eyes, he recounted to David and Rhonda the conversation, word for word, that her father had said. And Chad stood there, making good on the promise to guard her heart with care.
Krystina and Chad had a short engagement. There was no point in waiting for what everyone knew: they’d each found the one their soul loved. One by one, all the plans fell into place. Except for the dress. The dress Krystina really wanted was from a dress maker in Australia and the deadline to have it made in time had come and gone. That’s where her father stepped in and with relentless fortitude, contacted the dress maker, Made with Love. The name is very fitting, I think. His request for the Stevie dress in nude came to the design team when they were about to leave for New York Fashion week. Kindly, they told him they wouldn’t be able to accommodate this request. He immediately responded, “what can I do? Please. This is for my only daughter.”
Heart in throat.
Made with love came through… as did every other element to their day. And here’s a look at their perfect ever-after day (it’s a long one, friends).
