The more I photograph people, the more I appreciate individuality.
The uniqueness of each person, each family. How they relate and interact… and the story they have to tell.
I started off taking pictures of my own family, because I found the smallest nuances fascinating. I think most parents feel that way about their little ones.
Fingers, toes, eyelashes. Sour expressions at the introduction of peas.
While I don’t always focus on fingers and toes with my clients, I still find people fascinating.
This has caused me to draw away from posed family portraits and move toward lifestyle sessions.
Where movement, interaction and environment are as incredibly important to my client, as a standard portrait is to another.
Because I believe, the real in life isn’t found in “cheese.” It is found in tickles, twirling and love expressed.
The Hine Family is finally getting a blog post. They entrusted me to capture their family as we hiked (A LONG way) to the water. They wanted to capture life as it was.
I’m so glad they did.
Because 4… are becoming 5.
As they celebrate new life taking shape, it’s wonderful to have something to draw back on and remember what live looked like then.
I believe this, because I now embrace that as a Photographer – I am a Historian, too.
And… this Historian believes that each step along our journey… is worth remembering.
With gratitude,
K
